Relief Stretches For Balance Problems
1. Gravity drop |
(3 minute hold) Stand on a step or stairway. Your feet are parallel, shoulder-width apart. Hold on to a support with your hands, meanwhile, drop your heals off the step to stretch your achilles tendon and calf. Let the weight of your body press into your heels. Don't bend the knees.
2. Reverse Wall Sit |
(5 minute hold) Lie on your back. Legs shoulder-width apart, tighten thighs, toes point down toward your belly button. The closer the buttocks and hamstrings are to the wall, the better. Relax upper body. Hold 5 minutes.
3. Sitting floor |
(5 minute hold) Sit against wall with legs straight in front of you. Tighten thighs and flex feet, toes point back toward you. Squeeze shoulder blades together (but do not raise shoulders).
4. Static Back |
(10 min hold) Lie on your back. Both legs at right angle on chair. Let back settle into floor. Breathe deep. Hold 10 minutes. If discomfort, place rolled towel under neck and low back.
